What is OpenWhispr?
OpenWhispr is open-source dictation software that turns speech into text in any app that accepts typing, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Slack, Gmail and Google Docs. It also records meeting notes without a bot joining the call and transcribes uploaded audio files.
Speech-to-text can run fully on your computer with local models, offline, with nothing sent to the company. You can also use OpenWhispr Cloud or bring your own API keys. Recordings sent to the cloud are deleted once transcription finishes, and transcriptions are not used for model training. It supports 100+ languages with auto-detection, a custom dictionary that learns from your corrections, and voice commands like "clean this up" or "draft an email". The code is on GitHub under the MIT license.
It suits developers, writers and privacy-conscious teams. Local dictation is free and unlimited, and paid plans add unlimited cloud transcription, more meeting hours and team controls.

Use cases
Who it's for
Prompting AI tools by voice
Dictate prompts into ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor rather than typing them out.
Meeting notes without a bot
Record and transcribe meetings without a bot joining the call. Free users get 5 hours a month, and Business users get unlimited hours.
Offline transcription while traveling
Local models run on your machine, so dictation works without an internet connection.
Privacy-sensitive teams
Organizations with compliance needs can keep audio on the device, check the MIT-licensed code and use Enterprise SSO and audit logs.
