Audio & Voice tools compared
From each vendor's own pages, re-checked every two months. Of 29 tools we checked, 7 of 14 that state a policy don't train AI on your content, and 16 hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
How to choose audio & voice tools
Start with the job, because this category mixes music generators (Suno, AIVA), voice generators (ElevenLabs, Murf AI), meeting notetakers (Otter.ai, Fathom) and editors (Descript, Riverside.fm). Within each group, a few things separate the options.
Where the audio is processed. Vosk, whisper.cpp and WhisperX are open source and can run on your own machine. Meetily and OpenWhispr also process audio on-device, which may suit sensitive recordings.
How meetings are captured. Tactiq, Jamie and Granola are bot-free, so check these first if you don't want a bot joining your calls.
Pricing. Most tools are freemium, with listed paid plans starting between $6/mo (ElevenLabs) and $29/mo (Speechify). Soundraw is paid only, and Reduct offers a free trial rather than a free tier.
Platform and API. Some tools only fit certain setups: AIVA is web only, while Granola has desktop and mobile apps but no web version listed. If you're building a product, look for an API, as with Amazon Transcribe or ElevenLabs.
Frequently asked questions
Are there free AI audio and voice tools?
Yes. Vosk, whisper.cpp, WhisperX and Audapolis are free and open source. The first three handle speech recognition, while Audapolis edits spoken-word audio and video. Many others, including Suno, Otter.ai and ElevenLabs, have free tiers alongside paid plans. Limits vary, so check each tool's plan details.
How much do AI audio tools cost?
Listed starting prices for paid plans run from $6/mo (ElevenLabs) to $29/mo (Speechify). Examples in between include Suno at $8/mo, Fireflies.ai at $10/mo, Descript at $16/mo and Riverside.fm at $24/mo. Some tools, such as Udio, Tactiq and AIVA, are freemium with no starting price on our list.
What should I look for in an AI audio tool?
First, match the tool to the task: music, voiceovers, dictation, meeting notes or editing. Then check whether it needs to work offline or without a meeting bot, whether it runs on your devices, and whether you need an API. We did not test these tools, so try a free tier or trial with your own audio where one is available.
What are the alternatives to popular tools like Otter.ai or ElevenLabs?
For meeting notes, alternatives to Otter.ai include Fireflies.ai, Fathom, Notta, Granola, Jamie and Tactiq. Meetily is an open-source option that works on your device. For AI voices, alternatives to ElevenLabs include Murf AI and WellSaid Labs, which uses voices licensed from professional voice actors.
