How to choose ai agents tools
Start with the job, because "AI agent" covers very different work here. Coding agents include OpenAI Codex, Kiro and Windsurf. Support agents include Kayako, Zendesk AI and Gorgias. Crypto trading bots include 3Commas, Bitsgap and Coinrule. Sales, legal, travel and recruiting have their own options, such as Amplemarket, Harvey AI, Mindtrip and Workable.
Then compare three things:
- Pricing model. Listed entry prices run from $3/mo (Figma AI) to $600/mo (Amplemarket). Clari, Harvey AI and ContractPodAi are contact-only, so expect to talk to sales before you get a number.
- Platform fit. Check that the tool runs where you work. JetBrains AI and Tabby work in JetBrains IDEs, Coinrule is available on iOS, Android and Telegram, and Pearl runs in Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and Telegram.
- API and hosting control. If you need to build on a tool, look for an API: Vapi, Workato and Gorgias list one. Activepieces and Tabby are open source and can be self-hosted.
We have not tested these tools, so use trials and free plans to check them on your own tasks.
Frequently asked questions

Others offer a free trial instead, including 3Commas, Bitsgap, Zendesk AI, Gorgias, Amplemarket and Workable. Check each tool's site to see what the free plan or trial includes.
How much do AI agents cost?
Listed starting prices range from $3/mo for Figma AI to $600/mo for Amplemarket. Many fall between $8 and $30/mo, including OpenAI Codex ($8), JetBrains AI ($10), Gorgias ($10), 3Commas ($15), Windsurf ($20), Kiro ($20) and Vapi ($29). What should I look for in an AI agent?
First, make sure it is built for your task, such as coding, support, sales or trading. Then check the pricing model, whether it runs on your platforms, and whether you need an API or self-hosting. For example, Vapi is a developer platform with an API for voice agents, while Coinrule offers no-code trading bots. Activepieces and Tabby suit teams that want open-source, self-hosted options.
What are the alternatives to OpenAI Codex?
Other coding options on this list are Windsurf, Kiro, JetBrains AI and Tabby. Windsurf is an AI coding IDE for running local and cloud agents. Kiro is a spec-driven agentic IDE and CLI. JetBrains AI runs and reviews coding agents across projects in JetBrains IDEs, on the web and in a CLI. Tabby is an open-source, self-hosted coding assistant.
