What is Kilo Code?
Kilo Code is an open-source AI coding agent that writes, plans, debugs and reviews code inside VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, the terminal, the cloud, Slack and a beta desktop app. Its source is MIT-licensed, so teams can audit prompts and context, fork it or self-host it.
The agent comes in specialized modes (Ask, Plan, Code, Debug and Custom) and can run local or cloud agents in parallel isolated worktrees. Developers can connect 500+ models from 60+ providers through Kilo Gateway at provider rates with no markup, bring their own API keys, or run local models with Ollama or LM Studio. Auto Model picks a model based on the tier you choose: Efficient, Frontier or Free.
The platform itself is free for individuals. Teams adds shared agents, analytics and centralized billing, and Enterprise adds SSO, audit logs and SLAs. Inference and cloud compute are billed separately based on usage.

Use cases
Who it's for
Fixing bugs in an existing codebase
The Debug agent reads errors, traces issues and suggests fixes, and it can run tests to check the change.
Planning a complex feature
The Plan agent gives structured guidance before you write any code, and the Code agent then implements it.
Running agents in CI or from the terminal
The CLI runs Kilo in any shell, script or CI job, and you can install it with curl, npm, brew and other package managers.
Rolling out AI coding across a company
Teams and Enterprise plans add usage analytics, shared agents, model access controls, SSO and audit logs.
