What is Kiro?
Kiro is an agentic coding environment from AWS. It turns your prompts into requirements, architectural designs and sequenced tasks, then implements them with parallel agents that run on your machine or in the cloud. Before it writes code, it checks the requirements for contradictions and gaps. It then uses property-based tests to catch edge cases that ordinary unit tests miss.
Kiro comes as an IDE (which supports Open VSX extensions and VS Code settings), a CLI, a web app and Kiro Crew. You can also run it headless in CI/CD to review PRs and fix bugs. It supports MCP, AGENTS.md, Skills.md and the Agent Client Protocol. You can pick a model yourself, including Claude, GPT-5.6 and open-weight models, or let Auto choose one for each task.
Kiro suits individual developers and teams that want more structure than prompt-and-go coding. For enterprises, it offers SSO, IAM, usage dashboards and governance controls.

Use cases
Who it's for
Planning a new feature
Turn a short prompt into user stories, an architectural design and ordered tasks, then let the agents implement them.
Catching edge-case bugs
Generate property-based tests that check rules across all inputs, not just a few examples.
Automated PR review in CI
Run the headless Kiro CLI in a CI/CD pipeline to review pull requests and fix bugs.
Background chores
Set up hooks so that tests or documentation updates run automatically when code changes.
