Pick your 3Commas replacement by bot type first, then by where it keeps your API keys. Bitsgap is the closest swap for DCA and Grid bots. Cryptohopper is the one for marketplace strategies. Coinrule covers simple rules, and Pionex removes API keys by making you trade on its own exchange. If the late-2022 key leak is why you're leaving, a cloud-to-cloud switch only changes which company you trust. Self-hosted OctoBot or Gunbot changes the risk itself.
Match your 3Commas bot to a replacement
Bot settings don't import between platforms. StaxInvesting says logic structures differ, so you rebuild every strategy by hand.
| What you run on 3Commas | Closest replacement | Runner-up | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| DCA bot with safety orders | Bitsgap | Cryptohopper | Block Research says Cryptohopper and 3Commas share the same base-order-plus-safety-order math, so drawdown behaves the same |
| Grid bot | Bitsgap | Pionex | Pionex means moving your funds onto Pionex |
| TradingView webhook bot | WunderTrading | OctoBot | Your alerts were written for 3Commas and need rewriting |
| Copy trading or bought strategies | Cryptohopper | WunderTrading | Marketplace results come from sellers, and StaxInvesting warns of survivorship bias |
| Simple if-this-then-that rules | Coinrule | Composer | Coinrule's free plan caps volume at $3k a month |
| Manual trading terminal | Altrady | Bitsgap | Terminal depth differs more than bot depth |
| US stocks or CFDs | SignalPipe | None | It isn't a crypto bot |
A caution on DCA. Block Research argues most 3Commas alternatives are reskins of the same martingale-style DCA logic. Swapping platforms won't fix a strategy that bleeds in a downtrend. Block Research also says the real cost of a bot is drawdown on your account, not the subscription. Its own product, vyn premium, is pitched as the DCA replacement with different safety-order behaviour, so weigh that as a vendor claim.
What each platform costs, and where your keys live
Of the 11 crypto trading bot tools in our trading and investing category, only 2 have a free plan (Coinrule and Composer) and only 1 is open source (OctoBot). The median cheapest paid plan across the 7 tools with a public price is $24.16 a month.
| Platform | Entry price | Free plan or trial | Where API keys live |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3Commas | $15/mo billed yearly, $20 monthly | Free trial | Vendor cloud |
| Bitsgap | $23/mo billed yearly, $29 monthly | Free trial | Vendor cloud |
| Cryptohopper | $24.16/mo billed yearly, $29 monthly | Free trial | Vendor cloud |
| Coinrule | $29.99/mo (Investor) | Free: 2 running strategies, 1 exchange, $3k monthly volume | Vendor cloud |
| Gunbot | €29/mo, or $348 prepaid for 12 months | None listed | Your machine |
| OctoBot | Free, open source | n/a | Your machine |
| Pionex | No price in our listing; StaxInvesting says no subscription, trading fees only | n/a | No external key, funds sit on Pionex |
3Commas runs Starter at $15, Pro at $38 and Expert at $105 a month on annual billing. That's $180, $456 and $1,260 a year. Starter is cheaper than every paid alternative above. Bitsgap's Basic plan costs $96 a year more, and Cryptohopper's Explorer plan costs $109 a year more. If price alone is why you're leaving, you probably shouldn't.
Above entry level the gaps widen. Bitsgap's Pro is $119 a month annually and Cryptohopper's Hero is $107.50. Both are about the same as 3Commas Expert at $105.
We have no catalogue price for WunderTrading, Cornix or TradeSanta, so they're left out of the table rather than guessed.
Moving to another cloud bot doesn't fix the key-leak risk
Quantzee's write-up says 3Commas had a security incident in late 2022 in which API keys leaked and some users saw unauthorized trades. The company acknowledged it and added security measures, and the platform still runs. StaxInvesting adds that the drained accounts were hit through trade permissions alone, via market manipulation rather than withdrawals. Its FAQ answers whether trade-only keys are safe with "Safer, not safe."
Bitsgap, Cryptohopper, Coinrule and WunderTrading all store your exchange keys on their servers, the same model as 3Commas. One vendor breach exposes every customer at once.
Self-hosted (OctoBot, Gunbot): the bot runs on your computer or a rented server and the keys stay there. An attacker has to target you specifically. You patch the machine and keep it online.
Exchange-native (Pionex): no third party holds a key, but the risk moves to the exchange. Your money and your bots sit with one company.
unCoded also sells self-hosting. Its page says your keys never leave your server and are trade-only with no withdrawal rights. That's the vendor's own claim, and we have no independent check on it.
Gunbot costs more than 3Commas Starter, so buy it for custody
Gunbot's 12-month prepaid plan is $348 against $180 for 3Commas Starter. That's $168 more a year before you pay for a server. It undercuts 3Commas Pro at $456, but only if you'd have needed Pro anyway. Choose Gunbot because you want the keys on your own machine, not to save money.
OctoBot is the free route. Our listing describes it as open source with grid, DCA, AI and TradingView strategies. StaxInvesting notes you host it and handle the setup. It's the best self-hosted pick if you'd rather spend a weekend than a subscription.
Who each alternative is wrong for
Bitsgap. Block Research calls it the closer swap for more grid variants. TradeAlgo says its grid interface is slightly more intuitive than 3Commas and that combo bots merge DCA and grid logic. Bitsgap's own blog says its Free plan includes 20 demo bots, three live COMBO bots on EVEDEX and the API, plus a 7-day Pro trial. The same blog ranks Bitsgap first, so treat that as a pitch. Demo mode is still useful for rebuilding your 3Commas setups before real money moves. Wrong for you if your workflow is TradingView alerts.
Cryptohopper. The marketplace platform. Copy Bot plans run $9.99 to $99.99 a month on top of the bot tiers. Wrong for you if you're leaving over key custody, since it's the same cloud model.
Coinrule. Our catalogue lists 25+ exchanges and a free Starter plan. The $3k monthly volume cap is the limit that will bite first. A DCA bot with safety orders can burn through that in a few deals. Wrong for you if you run multi-step DCA. Paid plans start at $29.99 a month, which is above what Cryptohopper's Explorer costs on annual billing.
WunderTrading. StaxInvesting names it the pick for TradingView integration and copy trading. Bitsgap's blog says it has a free plan with limits. We don't have those limits, so confirm them before building on it. Wrong for you if you don't use TradingView. For stricter webhook automation, Cryptomatic is also in our directory, though we list no price for it.
Pionex. Our listing describes an exchange with built-in automated bots. StaxInvesting says there's no subscription and you pay trading fees. Wrong for you if your funds live on Coinrule's supported exchanges, Coinbase or Kraken and you'd rather leave them there.
Altrady. Bitsgap's blog suggests it for manual trading with bots on the side. That's the only support we have, and it comes from a competitor. Treat it as a lead.
SignalPipe. Block Research describes it as a $29 a month bridge from TradingView alerts into Alpaca or Capital.com, for stock and CFD execution. If you only want to automate US stocks, our guide to AI trading bots for Robinhood covers the routes there. For charting and alerts, TradingView sits upstream of all these webhook bots.
Vendor comparisons rank themselves first
Block Research puts vyn premium at the top. Quantzee calls Quantzee the strongest alternative, though it sells TradingView signals rather than bots. Bitsgap's blog ranks Bitsgap. Some of these pages hold useful detail, but read the rankings as marketing. Where we've used a vendor's claim above, we've named the vendor.
Moving off 3Commas without leaving keys behind
- Record every bot's settings: pair, base order, safety order count, step, take profit, stop loss, deal limits.
- Export trade history from 3Commas and the exchange before you switch.
- Finish or close open deals, then stop all bots so nothing reopens mid-move.
- Revoke the 3Commas keys on the exchange. Deleting them inside 3Commas isn't enough. StaxInvesting says to revoke the old keys before connecting new ones.
- Create fresh trade-only keys with withdrawals disabled. Never reuse old ones.
- Whitelist IPs where the exchange and new platform support it, and use a sub-account per bot platform if your exchange offers them.
- Run the rebuilt bot at a fraction of its normal size and compare fills against your notes before scaling up.
