From each vendor's own pages, re-checked every two months. Of 10 tools we checked, 3 of 4 that state a policy don't train AI on your content, and 5 hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
Start with the job, because these tools split sharply by task. Contract work is the largest group: Spellbook handles review and drafting in Microsoft Word, while Luminance, Ironclad and ContractPodAi target broader enterprise contract work. Legal research is the focus of Westlaw Precision and Lexis+ AI. Clio Duo is built into Clio Manage, so it suits firms already using that software.
Pricing model is the next filter. Nine of the 13 tools require contacting the vendor, so you can't compare their costs from the list. Reduct ($12/mo), Tailor Brands ($16.58/mo), Rev ($25.49/mo) and IBM watsonx.governance ($3,500/mo) publish starting prices.
Integration and deployment matter if the tool must connect to your own systems. Ironclad, Reduct and Rev offer APIs, IBM watsonx.governance has a self-hosted option, and Rev is the only one with iOS and Android apps.
Intended user also narrows the list. Most tools are built for lawyers or enterprise teams, while Tailor Brands is aimed at small-business owners forming an LLC. We haven't tested these tools, so confirm the details with each vendor.
None of the listed tools is described as fully free. Tailor Brands and Rev are freemium, while Reduct and IBM watsonx.governance offer free trials. The other nine tools require contacting the vendor about pricing.
Published starting prices range from $12/mo to $3,500/mo: Reduct starts at $12/mo, Tailor Brands at $16.58/mo, Rev at $25.49/mo and IBM watsonx.governance at $3,500/mo. Harvey AI, Westlaw Precision, Spellbook, Darrow AI, Luminance, Ironclad, Clio Duo, Lexis+ AI and ContractPodAi don't list prices here.
Start by matching the tool to the task, such as contract review, legal research, practice management or compliance. Then check whether pricing is published, whether it fits your existing software, and whether you need an API or self-hosting. For example, Spellbook works in Microsoft Word, Clio Duo is built into Clio Manage, and IBM watsonx.governance has a self-hosted option.
It depends on what you need it for. Lexis+ AI covers research, drafting and document analysis, and Westlaw Precision focuses on legal research using Westlaw content. For contract work, consider Spellbook, Luminance, Ironclad or ContractPodAi. All of these require contacting the vendor about pricing, as Harvey AI does.
